Our Ideas

We have now began to create a storyboard of the video we intend to make. To do this, as a group, we began to brainstorm possible ideas for our music video and then we shared these ideas with our peers to receive feedback that we would as constructive feedback. Our possible ideas are as follows:

Option 1:
Girl on her own, 'lost' essentially, following 'Ed sheeran - the A team' theme
Story related to drug issues perhaps that would add meaning to the video and some use of colour editing to the story to play on emotions and to add a sense of isolation. This would involve one main character, a girl, around the age of 17. The story of her daily life is shown and at points is tied in with the lyrics of the song.

Option 2:
Idea like "The Luminers - Stubborn Love' theme
Girl leaving her dad - moving away
We would try and convey the sense that the character is someone that the singer, paddy, once knew and cared about, possibly a friend or family member or past love.

Option 3:
Parents fighting - children (brother/sister)
He takes her to the park - With our singer Paddy appearing as a busker for a brief period
Brother and sister stop busker - young girl gives money making the singer appear to the audience more clearly. A storyline showing a strong relationship of love
We think this idea would fit in with the song 'joe' by Paddy Sloan. We believe this approach would be effective as many viewers can relate to the idea.

Option 4:
2 children displaying friendship
Shows the girl getting on the bus - meeting the boy
Cute activities - child like with an adult edge to them
Try and convey that these the young boy character is the singer paddy as a child, almost as if it is a memory of his, and the young girl is a friend of his, almost as if it is his first love possibly.

We liked this idea of a storyline as the video, rather than a live performance of the musician, because we seen that when other artists used it was a simplistic yet effective approach. It also tied in with many artists of the indie-pop genre and made links with the typical codes and conventions. The idea of the musician, Paddy, having a small appearance, such as a busker, we thought was a good idea has it reassured the audience of who the singer was and what he looked like etc. This concept stays away from the usual generic approach by pop artists who have an over the top video that can sometimes take away from the song itself.

Following this, we took these ideas to our focus group to get feedback. In doing this we found that option one and two seemed to be the most popular and liked by the group. Because of this we have taking parts of both these options and almost combined what we believe are the best parts of each ideas.  We have now began to start creating a storyboard from this and hope that this idea will be created into a real music video.
